Abstract: Development of laminar and turbulent boundary layer in two-dimensional open-channel flow is analyzed numerically. The numerical method used herein is based on Patanker & Spalding’s method, which is proposed for calculation of laminar flow in a pipe. A k-\epsilon\ model is adopted for the turbulent open channel flow. Development of laminar boundary layer in an open-channel, which is slower than that in a pipe, is well simulated by the numerical analysis. Effects of some hydraulic conditions on the development of turbulent boundary layer in an open-channel flow are discussed. It si concluded that the development of turbulent boundary layer is mostly affecterd by the roughness size of the bed.
